CMSbyCW and WordPress CMS Comparison

CMSbyCW and WordPress CMS Comparison

Published on: 03/12/2026, 01:23 PM by Software Developer

If you’re exploring WordPress alternatives, CMSbyCW offers a lightweight, stable, and fast option for developers or tech-savvy site owners who want full control without the plugin bloat or database hassles. Below is a quick comparison showing how CMSbyCW stacks up against WordPress for multi-domain deployments, ease of maintenance, and content stability.

Feature CMSbyCW WordPress
Database Required No -  uses PHP + raw HTML backup Yes — MySQL or MariaDB
Target Users Developers & tech-comfortable site owners Everyone, from beginners to pros
Maintenance Minimal — update logos, favicons, or 3 core files per deployment Frequent updates — WP Core, Themes, Plugins
Deployment Time Minutes per domain Longer, especially with themes, plugins, and DB setup
Stability Across Sites High — same codebase runs across multiple domains Can break due to plugin or theme conflicts
Searchable Content Blog posts only, separate from pages Pages & posts are searchable by default
Backup & Recovery Raw HTML backups automatically created Requires plugin or manual export
Customization Full control over code, minimal bloat Powerful, but often relies on plugins

WordPress is free to download and upload on your own website.

Most Webhosts have the famous "One-Click Installation" of software like WordPress.

Is it easy?  Well, it depends on your technical skills.

And yes, depends on your patience too, on learning how to figure out how WordPress works.  And their Themes, and Plugins.

I had been a php developer / Full Stack Developer for at least 17 years.

I moved on to create my own CMS.

CMSbyCW is NOT free.

WordPress is free, with your webhosting.

But the time you will spend on learning WordPress and troubleshooting WP Themes and plugin conflicts, is NOT free.

It can be a tradeoff.

If you are a developer, like me, who got tired of troubleshooting, when you didn't cause the trouble, then you can relate.

After years of troubleshooting, it gets really old.

And I am getting old too!  LOL!

So I built CMSbyCW.

It's working for me. Now.

And I don't have to worry about ANY external updates overwriting my work.

I have deployed it on several portals now, so far, 7.

I also put the same posts, for Stress Testing, like:

Stress Test:  150+ images on one page - powered by CMSbyCW

and

Carousel Slideshow

and

CW Webhost Stress Simulator  (that blog post is just an example of how customizable this CMS is.... that post is just a goofing off because there were some issues with my webhost that they resolved - that post - or the codes inside that blog post, were created while waiting for the webhost to fix something in their server.  Inside the CMSbyCW.

There are other options and alternatives to WordPress that, like CMSbyCW,  also don't have databases as well.

CMSbyCW is just one of them, and I can only write about software that I personally have experience with.

I would surmise other developers have also gone through deciding to build their own CMSs.

I'm glad I spent time clarifying ...

Who is CMSbyCW for? And why?

and building the CMSbyCW Features with more clarity

Demo site to give people an idea of what the Software Package looks like, and these other portals and blogging networks that I am deploying as well, would just be a testament to the CMSbyCW flexibility.

I can't believe how easy it is to use. I mean, I should, there are 7 different installations now, and stress testing and there will be more to come.

I use the  Help tutorials on each deployment, there's some tweaks and polishing I did along the way, to make sure the instructions are clear.

CMSbyCW is Truly Ready
